The Consular Department of the Chinese Embassy and Chinese Visa Centres across the UK will be closed on Monday, 31st January and Tuesday, 1st February 2022 in observation of the traditional Chinese New Year’s Day.
The Consulate will resume work from Wednesday, 2nd February and the Chinese Visa Centre will reopen for submission of documents for legalisation from Thursday, 3rd February 2022.
The Chinese Visa Centre continues to operate with a limited service accepting documents on Tuesdays and Thursdays only and no express service available. The legalisation process is currently taking 1 week from submission to the Chinese Visa Centre.
The Chinese Consulate in the UK do not accept foreign documents for legalisation in any circumstances. They can only legalise documents originated from the UK, British Overseas Territories or Crown Dependencies. Even foreign passports certified by a UK notary public are not acceptable for legalisation by the Consulate in the UK.
The standard requirement for accepting UK documents for legalisation remains unaltered, and depending on the type of document and circumstances, they may require additional supporting documents on submission.
