LEGALISATION REQUIREMENT FOR Oman

Oman is a member of the Hague Convention of 1961 and the FCDO Apostille only should suffice for documents to be used in Oman.

FEES

The FCDO Apostille fee is £40 for standard service, £100 for premium service or £35 for e-Apostille service.

PROCESSING TIME

Turnaround time is likely to be 1-2 working days for standard service (paper-based), 5-6 hours for premium service or 5-48 hours for the e-Apostille service.

IMPORTANT NOTES

For the Standard Apostille Next-Day Service (paper-based Apostille), we must receive the original documentation by 11:00 am to be despatched the next working day.

The Premium Apostille is a limited service the FCDO can provide for a few eligible types of documents and they require evidence to support the urgency requirement. Please contact our Legalisation Team for further details.

Documents eligible for the e-Apostille must be first notarised with an Advanced Electronic Signature (AES) or a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES).

For the attestation of UK educational documents, the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Oman still provides the attestation for use in Oman. For this option, the document holder is required to contact the Cultural Attaché directly.

For the legalisation of commercial documents for use in Oman there are two options available:

  1. by the Consulate of Oman via the Arab British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). For this option the document MUST NOT be Apostilled by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) but submitted directly to the ABCC once certified by a notary public. The consular fee varies depending on the type of documents from £90 to £180 per document plus the ABCC fee of £74.40. The ABCC requires an Undertaking Form duly completed and signed by a director of the company together with their passport copy upon submission to the Consulate (template available on request); OR
  2. by FCDO Apostille only. Once a commercial document is Apostilled by the FCDO, the Consulate cannot affix any legalisation stamp.
