LEGALISATION REQUIREMENT FOR Iraq

Document for use in Iraq first needs to be legalised by way of FCDO Apostille and then submitted to the Consulate of Iraq for further attestation.

Commercial documents must also be attested by the London and Arab Chambers of Commerce before submitting to the Consulate for further legalisation.

FEES

The consular fee is £217.60 per commercial document including London and Arab Chambers fees.

The consular fee is £15 per private document.

PROCESSING TIME

The consular processing time is likely to be 1-2 working days for processing personal documents.

For commercial documents legalised via the London and Arab Chambers, the processing time is likely to be 10-15 working days.

IMPORTANT NOTES

A photocopy of the document is required upon submission to the Consulate. For commercial documents, 3 photocopies of each document are required upon submission to the London Chamber.

As per Circular 766 (Arab-British Chamber of Commerce), documents containing handwritten amendments/insertions will not be accepted for legalisation. The whole content/text, except for the actual signature(s), must be entirely in print/typed in, including any internal references.

All commercial documents such as Powers of Attorney/Authorisation of Agent, to be legalised for Iraq should contain the registration number and UK address of any company mentioned within the document, as well as the passport/ID number of any individuals named in the text.

As per circular 140322, for legalisation of commercial Powers of Attorney, one of the directors  of the UK company must write and sign a letter (We can provide the template upon request) verifying the authenticity of the Power of Attorney and include also the following information:

  • The name of the company that has issued the document,
  • The company’s address,
  • List the name(s) of the company’s director(s),
  • List the director(s)’s email address(es) and telephone number(s).

If the document is a private Power of Attorney, the document holder must attend the consular section of the Iraqi Embassy in person with their original passport to be identified by the consular officer. We can also attend with the executant if necessary and collect the legalised document when ready.

The legalisation of UK educational documents is required to be submitted through the Iraqi Cultural Attaché only using a separate application form in Arabic language. Prior certification by a UK notary or solicitor is not required nor the FCDO Apostille. The educational documents can be submitted directly to the Iraqi Cultural Attaché and they will perform the necessary verification with the UK universities and attest the academic documents upon receiving the confirmation of authenticity from the university.
