Document for use in Iraq needs first to be legalised by way of FCO Apostille and then submitted to the Consulate of Iraq for further attestation.
Commercial documents must also be attested by the London and Arab Chambers of Commerce prior to submitting to the Consulate for further legalisation.
The consular fee is £215.20 per commercial document including London and Arab Chambers fees.
The consular fee is £15 per personal document.
Turnaround time is likely to be 1-2 working days for processing personal documents and for commercial documents is likely to be up to 10-12 working days.
Photocopy of the document is required. For commercial documents, 3 photocopies of each document is required.
As per Circular 766 (Arab-British Chamber of Commerce), documents containing handwritten amendments/insertions will not be accepted for legalisation. The whole content/text, except for the actual signature(s), must be entirely in print/typed in, including any internal references.
All documents to be legalised for Iraq should contain the registration number and UK address of any company mentioned within the document, as well as the passport/ID number of any persons named in the text.
As per circular 140322, for legalisation of commercial Powers of Attorney, one of the directors of the UK company must write and sign a letter verifying the authenticity of the Power of Attorney and include also the following information:
If the personal document is a Power of Attorney, document’s holder must attend the consular section of the Iraqi Embassy in person in order to sign it in the presence of the Consular Officer.
Degree certificates and transcripts are acceptable in a bundle with one Apostille only provided the local requesting party in Iraq is happy to accept it notarised and legalised together.
Method of Payment: Cash only when submitted directly to the Consulate or cheque and card if submitting through the London Chamber of Commerce.
